Oscillating violin string with resonance body.
The violin string is represented by a chain consistingof point masses and springs. The oscillation is stimulated by plucking the string. At the left end of the string there is a heavy point mass serving as a resonance body. The resonance body is connected to the origin pivot via a spring. The resonance body is stimulated by the oscillation of the string. At the right and of the string there is a fixed pivot point. The pivot on the right is massless.
The following figure shows the initial state of the physical system. The string is deflected in the middle (the plucking). Violin strings are are deflected only by very small amounts. In order to improve the visibility of vibration, the figure uses different scalings for the x and y direction. The y values are magnified by a factor of 20. The length of the violin string is 35cm and its deflection is just 0,5cm.
After the plucking the string starts oscillating. The oscillation is damped. The movement of the resonance body in y direction is recorded and converted into an audio file.
